Skincare Routine

Before I get into what exactly my skincare routine is I wanted to tell you a little about my skin. During most season I have normal to oily skin but during winter months I have normal to dry skin.  I’m very lucky in the fact that I’m not someone who has had to deal with bad acne. If I have a break out it may be one bad one that stays around for awhile but other than that my skin is pretty clear. I do however have a problem with texture on my cheeks and jawline. When I say texture I mean small bumps that are the same color as my skin (not pimples). When I wear makeup the bumps become way more visible and they drive me insane! I feel like I have tried every drugstore product available but nothing has worked. After reviewing many different products I came across a few that I decided to try. I’ve been doing this skincare routine for a couple of weeks and I can already see such a difference!

First thing I do before starting my skincare routine is get all the makeup off of my face which I usually do with a wipe. There is not a certain brand of wipes that I think are better than another! A lot of people complain that their acne wash doesn’t remove makeup. Well that’s because it’s not meant to! You want to get your makeup off with a makeup remover/wash so your acne wash can be better absorbed into your skin directly rather than fighting through makeup.

Once my face is free of makeup, I use this scrub as my exfoliator. I don’t use this product every single day but  more like 3-4 times a week. I find that a lot of drugstore exfoliators have large beads in the soap and those just don’t work for me. The bead to wash ratio isn’t realistic for it to be a exfoliator. This St. Ives scrub is a thicker consistency and has a grain mixed into it which acts as a amazing exfoliator. Why exfoliate before washing? Well it helps minimize large pores, helps clear acne & breakouts, improves skin texture, and helps with absorption of other products.

Murad Acne Starter Kit

So I’ve heard of the brand Murad a million times whether it be online or on TV. Honestly, I thought the products were too good to be true. I’ve just been so fed up with my skin lately that I decided to give this brand a chance. I mean I’ve tried a million so what’s one more. Since this brand is on the pricier side, I decided to go with the acne starter kit. Basically, it’s a smaller size of the products so I didn’t have to spend a arm & leg on the full sized products just in case I didn’t like them. I love the fact that each item has a number on the top, letting you know which one to use first, second, etc. The starter kit comes with the 4 products above. This kit is suppose to last you for 30 days.

I squeeze out a little on my fingers and massage into my skin. After I wash I pat my face dry with a towel. After using this cleanser my skin feels super tight which is a pretty weird feeling but I’ve come to like it!

Step 2: Acne Spot Treatment & Clearing Solution

I do the spot treatment before the clearing solution! I apply a thin layer of the spot treatment. Trust me when I say a little goes a long way with the clearing solution! Just last night I had a few spots that were coming up so I put this treatment on and when I woke up they were completely gone. I promise, I’m not making that up.

Step #3: Moisturize

Personally, I don’t feel like they give you enough of this stuff. For me, this will be the product I run out of first. This is what the website says about this product “is a shine-reducing moisturizer that controls oil for up to 8 hours* and protects blemish-prone skin. Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 / PA++ reduces shine on contact creating an immediate matte surface. It supports natural oil balance throughout the day, and prevents sun damage by delivering powerful UVA/UVB sun protection”. When winter months hit, I’ll probably use an extra moisturizer after this just because I get dry! Moisturizing is such an important step for me.

I do this skincare routine two times a day, sometimes three. Each morning when I wake up it’s the first thing I do and the last thing I do before bed! Other things I recommend doing if you’re having skin problems are:

-wash your makeup brushes!

-wash your bed sheets

-try not to touch your skin throughout the day (this is hard) but think about having dirty fingers & all the bacteria that can get onto your face.

– don’t wear makeup every day! your skin needs to breathe!

-never sleep with makeup on

-find a skincare routine that works for you and stick to it! If you just do your routine a couple times a week you are not going to see results. This needs to be a consistent thing.

I hope this helps! Everyone’s skin is different and these products won’t work for everyone. If you have a skincare product that you absolutely love, leave me a comment below & let me know what it is!

enjoy!

xoxo
